A large police presence near Keene's Crossing Elementary School has sparked fear and confusion in parents and residents in the Summerport community.
At about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, Orange County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a domestic-related shooting in the 14000 block of Sonco Avenue.
When deputies arrived, they found a woman who had been shot. She was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, OCSO said.
His wife was seen bleeding on the sidewalk, according to residents.
Deputies have reason to believe the suspect might still be in the home, and the situation remains fluid, OCSO said.
Deputies closed a portion of the Summerport neighborhood on Sonco Avenue and Bluebird Park because of the ongoing incident.
Residents are not allowed to leave their homes, and the entire area is shut down.
More law enforcement officers are on the way to the scene.
Michael Ollendorff, Orange County Public Schools public information officer, said Keene's Crossing Elementary School is on a secure status, which means students are inside the building and doors are locked.
Students slowly are being released to their parents. Bikers and walkers are being held on campus.
Bridgewater Middle School is operating normally.
"All students and staff are safe," Ollendorff said.
