Dr. Mike Armbruster has thrown his hat in the ring for Orange County School Board Chair.

Armbruster retired from Orange County Public Schools as a deputy superintendent in December.

The West Orange resident has served the district for more than 35 years, initially retiring after 33 years in 2020 but returning to the district in 2022 as a deputy superintendent.

Armbruster started his career as a teacher and coach and went on to become principal of West Orange High. He later opened Ocoee High, where he introduced the "house system."

Armbruster is one of three candidates vying for chair of the board. The other candidates are current school board members Angie Gallo and Alicia Farrant.
