The West Orange Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2022 State of West Orange Luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at the Ocoee Lakeshore Event Center.
The annual luncheon, hosted in conjunction with the West Orange Foundation, featured an open conversation with local elected officials regarding the municipalities, the county and information on the upcoming Orange County Transportation Sales Tax Referendum.
Panel speakers included Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, city of Ocoee Mayor Rusty Johnson, city of Winter Garden Mayor John Rees, town of Oakland Mayor Kathy Stark and town of Windermere Mayor Jim O’Brien.
Tracy Solly, WOCC vice president, J.T. McWalters, WOCC chairman from the Orlando Magic, and Jason Levine, from Harry Levine Insurance, welcomed attendees before presenting event sponsors Fred Kittinger, director of state and local government affairs at the University of Florida, and Oscar Santalo, pharmacy director at AdventHealth, who both shared a few words on their organization.
In addition to serving as series sponsor, Orlando Health also presented Michelle Strenth, senior director of government affairs and public policy at the healthcare organization, who served as the special guest moderator for the event.
Strenth asked the elected officials prepared questions on topics such as what the individual municipalities are currently working on, what their economic drivers are in the area and their most proud accomplishments, before reading off several audience questions.
