It’s playoff time for Central Florida’s league of major league baseball prospects, and the championship is still up for grabs heading into the final games of the season.

Winter Park (27-13) narrowly edged Leesburg (25-14) in the final week of the regular season, stringing together a four-game win streak heading into the playoffs.

The College Park Freedom finally broke the double-digit win mark with their final game of the season, shocking the Lightning 4-3 to end a 10-30 season on a high note.

For the Dawgs, who roared into the playoffs with game one set against the Orlando Monarchs on Wednesday at press time, the odds are in their favor — they’ve won every game against the Monarchs this season. They won 6-2 in game one thanks to some offensive fireworks spread throughout the lineup. Emilio Ogando pitched a masterful 1-hit shutout through six.

Thursday, Aug. 1, they're set for game two, starting at 1 p.m. at Orlando's Tinker Field. After a game one rainout Sanford (21-19) was set to play Leesburg in games one and two of their series at 1 p.m. at Leesburg for game one and 7 p.m. at Sanford Memorial Stadium the same day.

Barring early sweeps in the best of three series, they’ll be at it again Friday, with the championship then at Tropicana Field on Sunday. Check FloridaLeague.com for schedules and deals on tickets.
