After a two game losing streak in non-district play, it’s time for the Wildcats to finish the season in the games that matter. And the one coming up may be the biggest.

Winter Park (14-7, 2-1) is a win away from forcing a three-way tie at the top of Class 8A District 5. The team at the top, Oak Ridge, is 3-0 in districts, and they’re the only team left on the Wildcats’ district schedule.

The Wildcats haven’t beaten either of the top two teams in the district. It’ll be a good practice for what they’ll need to accomplish in the district tournament to make it to the regional playoffs. To make it, they need to beat at least one of either Oak Ridge or Timber Creek.

Oak Ridge presents a different kind of game than the Wildcats are used to. They score nearly 50 percent more points and give up nearly 40 percent more. For the Wildcats, who have learned to win mostly in low-scoring affairs, it could be a challenge.

The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Oak Ridge.
