Shannon Lee Wade was named the 2015 Distinguished Young Woman of Florida during the annual State Program, which was held Jan. 24, at the Winter Garden Theatre.
Wade along with 13 other contestants, representing a variety of cities and counties throughout the state, took the stage to compete for a variety of scholarships. The contestants were judged in several different categories, including scholastics, interview, talent, fitness and self-expression.
Kristina Zittel, of Lake Mary, was named first honoree, while Cassidy Layton, of Vero Beach, won second honoree.
Wade, a home-school student from Tampa, now will represent the state at the national competition later this year.
