Heart of Florida United Way and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4305 in Winter Garden teamed up to host a holiday gathering for local Puerto Rican families who were displaced from their homes and are now living in hotels following the destruction of Hurricane Maria in September.
The event, which was held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 21, allowed about 50 attendees to enjoy a hot meal, participate in the traditional Puerto Rican performance of Paranda, take holiday photos and pick up free clothes, shoes, canned goods and children toys.
