Dozens of individuals got to relive a high school tradition with the second annual 2nd Chance Prom on Saturday, June 2. The event was held at The Breakroom coffee shop in Winter Garden. The theme of the prom was “A Night in Paris.” Prom-goers enjoyed an evening dining, drinking, dancing and making memories.
Mindy Hungerford started the 2nd Chance Prom last year as a fundraiser to raise money for a mission trip to Uganda with Watoto Ministries. The ministry provides aid to abandoned women and children in Uganda.
“I knew I had to go,” Hungerford said. “I just felt called to go and work in their orphanage.”
Hungerford added Watoto Ministries has hired her to handle its social media accounts and now funds her mission trip. Funding from this year’s 2nd Chance Prom — and future ones — will go toward paying for life-saving supplies for the women and children who are helped by Watoto Ministries.
“People in the community who came (to the prom) last year had such a great time,” Hungerford said. “It looks like it’s going to happen every year. We’re already planning next year’s (prom).”
