On September 2011, Ocoee High School graduate Bob Deronvil suffered a fatal heart attack while playing basketball at Northwood University. It was his first year in college.
Today, his memory lives on with the Band of Brothers Memorial Classic basketball game. The Seventh Annual B.O.B. Memorial Classic was held on Saturday, June 2 at Ocoee High School.
Basketball fans packed the Ocoee High gym as Deronvil’s friends and former teammates faced off for a friendly ball game in his honor.
All proceeds of the game go toward the Bob Deronvil Scholarship Fund, which is awarded to one male and one female athlete each year, said Amilcar Matus, who was best friends with Deronvil.
Matus said seeing how much the event has grown over the years warms his heart
“It’s heart warming,” he said. “I love it. Every year it’s getting bigger and bigger.”
