FRIDAY, MAY 25

OCOEE MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION

11 a.m. Friday, May 25, at Bill Breeze Park, 125 N. Lakeshore Drive, Ocoee. The ceremony will include music, the Ocoee Police Department Honor Guard, a processional to the Ocoee Memorial Wall and a wreath-laying program. The guest speaker is AFJROTC Cadet Capt. AMR CPR CHALLENGE

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Winter Garden Heritage Foundation’s Heller Hall, 21 E. Plant St., Winter Garden. American Medical Response is holding this free, public event in partnership with Orlando Christian Preparatory, the West Orange Chamber of Commerce, the West Orange Healthcare District and the WGHF. More than 28,000 AMR paramedics, EMTs, RNs and other professionals work together to transport more than 4.8 million patients nationwide each year in critical, emergency and non-emergency situations. AMR Orlando provides medical transport service for West Orange County, including the cities of Winter Garden and Ocoee and the town of Windermere. (407) 656-1304.

 

“POLTER-HEIST”

8 p.m. Friday, May 25; 6 p.m. Saturday, May 26; and 2 p.m. Sunday May 27, at the Winter Garden Masonic Lodge, 230 W. Bay St., Winter Garden. Mimi’s Community Theater presents a comedy family-friendly interactive murder-mystery show. Tickets are $14 for adults and $8 for children 10 and younger for the May 26 and 27 shows and $30 and $14 in advance for the May 26 show, which includes a dinner of New York strip steaks and potatoes. MONDAY, MAY 28

WINTER GARDEN MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE

8:30 a.m. Monday, May 28, at Veterans Memorial Park, 420 S. Park Ave., Winter Garden. Program includes patriotic music, Winter Garden police and fire color guard and a roll call of the war dead. Guest speaker is Robert E. Cole Jr., retired master sergeant of the U.S. Air Force. (407) 656-4111.

 

WOODLAWN MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION

10 a.m. Monday, May 28, at the mosaic at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha. The event will include veteran organizations, scouts and the tolling of the replica Liberty Bell in memory of those who died in war. ONP GOPHER TORTOISE RUN

7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Oakland Nature Preserve, 747 Machete Trail, Oakland. Take part in a three-miler through the preserve or a three-mile virtual race — all to support ONP. Each registered on-site racer will receive a T-shirt, Gopher Tortoise Run carved wooden medallion and a clip-on Hydro Pouch. Virtual participants will receive a medallion. Community Editor Amy Quesinberry Price was born at the old West Orange Memorial Hospital and raised in Winter Garden. Aside from earning her journalism degree from the University of Georgia, she hasn’t strayed too far from her hometown and her three-mile bubble.
