Windermere residents have a new spot for noodles after Hawkers Asian Street Fare opened its newest location on April 23 at The Grove at 9100 Conroy Windermere Road, suite 110.

Hawkers specializes in Southeast Asian street food. The menu offers a wide variety of cuisine from wontons and pad thai to dim sum and ramen. Sharing is encouraged as part of the dining experience at Hawkers, said co-owner and co-founder Kaleb Harrell.

“Hawkers Asian Street Fare is an energetic, memorable, and authentic Southeast Asian experience,” Harrell said. “The menu is packed with flavorful dim sum and small plates, ideal for sharing with table-mates. This chopstick-friendly, ‘sharing-encouraged’ format provides a fun way to sample an assortment of flavors from countries all over Southeast Asia.”

Each dish at Hawkers is handcrafted, made from scratch and served the moment it’s prepared to ensure that the guest enjoys the dish at the peak of freshness. The restaurant’s menu changes twice a year with the seasons.

Harrell said he and the three other founders — Allen Lo, Wayne Yung and Kin Ho — traveled the world to curate the menu. The menu features popular street foods from Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan. The name of the restaurant is inspired by street-food vendors — known as hawkers — found all throughout Asia.

“It all started with a craving,” Harrell said. “(We) all longed for the unapologetic flavors of true Asian food — dumplings with bounce, spicy curries and crisp pork belly. (Our) intense passion for community and food made way for the creation of Hawkers.”

Hawkers in Windermere is the restaurant’s fifth location. The original opened in 2011 in Orlando’s Mills 50 District. Hawkers also is located in Jacksonville, Neptune Beach and St. Petersburg. Additional locations are slated to open in Delray Beach and Atlanta.

“We’re honored to join and support the thriving Windermere community,” Harrell said. “Each of our locations are a tribute to the communities (they’re in) — they each have their own personality. From the neon and newsprint table tops, to the chopsticks and open scratch kitchen — you’ll feel transported to the streets of Asia.”
