Military veterans living at Sonata West, in Winter Garden, were recognized for their service during a Veterans Day ceremony organized by Cornerstone Hospice & Palliative Care on Sunday, Nov. 11.
The Cornerstone Salutes! program honors veterans in a pinning ceremony that includes a presentation of a Certificate of Appreciation and a special “honored veteran” pin.
Nineteen veterans were recognized: Pete Fostines, Bill Murray, Bill Clark, Lynn Guthrie, Paul Teryl, Al Mannella, Paul Prendergast, Warren Meister, Bobby Landrum, Michael Myers, Fred Jennings, Edith Hamilton, William Milton Hamilton, Dick Clements, Joe Grilli, Allan Bruckheim, Howard Chinn, Clyde Jones and Jim Stanley.
They represented the U.S. Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy and many fought in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.
“If you’ve taken the time to serve this country, this nation, you are a veteran,” said George Wanberg, coordinator of the Cornerstone Hospice veteran program and a Marine who served in the Vietnam War. “Every one of you has a special story to tell.”
