Home intruder in Gotha shot during violent struggle

A home invasion in Gotha that occurred late Wednesday night resulted in serious injuries for the intruder.

A Gotha resident fought off an armed intruder during a home invasion and escaped without injuries late Wednesday. night, Orange County deputies said.

The home invasion occurred at Furlong Way in Gotha and was reported at 11:42 p.m Wednesday.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the 26-year-old victim of the home invasion informed deputies he fiercely fought with the suspect, who was armed with a handgun, and the suspect’s firearm went off and struck the suspect.

The victim then escaped and called for help from a nearby home, according to deputies. 

The suspect was found lying on the floor inside the home with serious injuries and transported to a hospital for treatment.
