The Hope & Help Foundation put on a wild and vibrant show during its Mystic Island Gala at the Rosen Centre Hotel on Saturday, Sept. 8. The HIV/AIDS-prevention nonprofit transformed the hotel ballroom into a lush and tropical venue complete with stilt-walking Flamingo Dancers and tourists.
"Last year, we did steampunk," executive director Lisa Barr said. "This year we wanted to trace the journey of someone who's HIV-positive. It's more of a spiritual journey."
Guests donned their most tropical attire and bid on gifts at the silent auction before settling down for the main attraction - an intricate performance where spirited performers sang and danced in exotic outfits.
Hope & Help recently started its Healthy Choices campaign, a 5-year initiative to aim $5 million to better community health.
