Staff from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Orlando Police Department and the Orlando Fire Department enjoyed being part of the tribute.
DR. PHILLIPS It has been 17 years since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and the community and Dr. Phillips High students and staff gathered Tuesday morning to reflect and remember. DPHS’ Air Force Junior ROTC stood at attention the flag was raised and the band played the national anthem. Lt. Colonel Rick Proctor opened the ceremony by introducing keynote speaker Eliu Muñiz, who was a New York Police officer on Sept. 11. Orange County Sheriff’s deputies, Orlando Police officers, Orlando Fire Department firefighters and members of the American Legion Post 286 in Pinecastle also were in attendance.
