Orange County Government is offering a self-serve sandbag program at local parks for residents from Aug. 19 through 31. The free program will allow residents to prepare for the peak of hurricane season.
The only one in West Orange County is at West Orange Recreational Complex, 309 S. West Crown Point Road, Winter Garden. The others are in Orlando: Barnett Park, 4901 W. Colonial Drive; Blanchard Park, 2451 N. Dean Road; Bithlo Community Park, 18501 Washington Ave.; and Meadow Woods Recreation Center/Meadow Woods Park, 1751 Rhode Island Woods Circle.
All sites are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Sunday, with the exception of West Orange Recreational Complex, which has limited Sunday hours of 1 to 8 p.m.
Participants must check in at the onsite park office and present a valid ID to get instructions and all necessary supplies. Sandbags are available for filling on a first-come, first-served basis.
