Duke Energy rebuilding transmission line through Oakland

Duke Energy is rebuilding a 6.6-mile section of a single-circuit, 69-kilovolt transmission line through Oakland — a project to help deal with the anticipated growth in Lake and Orange counties. 

According to an announcement posted on the town of Oakland's website, the work will be conducted between the existing Montverde and Winter Garden substations, mostly using right-of-way along State Road 50.

Oakland residents will likely see Duke Energy and contractor crews replacing structures with new concrete and steel poles about 100 feet above ground. The project may require trimming and/or removal of vegetation.

According to the announcement, the purpose of the project is to provide safe and reliable energy to homes, community facilities and businesses in the area; increase capacity to continue delivering reliable electricity; and maintain a robust energy delivery system.

Construction for the project is expected to be finished by November 2021.
