An Orlando woman is facing charges after police say she caused a crash that injured five people and shut down a section of Colonial Drive Thursday evening.

Chawanda Canady, 50, is facing charges of driving on a suspended license, driving without insurance and failure to maintain a single lane, causing the crash. Canady sustained serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, according to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Canady was in the center lane traveling eastbound on Colonial Drive. When she shifted into the right lane, the right side of her vehicle struck a van. After striking the van, Canady's vehicle traveled back toward the center lane and the front, left side of her vehicle struck the rear, right side of an SUV. The SUV then overturned. Canady's vehicle continued to travel into the westbound lanes of Colonial Drive and struck a pickup truck, according to the FHP release.

Seven people, including two children, were involved in a crash that temporarily shut down all lanes of West Colonial Drive near Ocoee.

The crash happened near the intersection of West Colonial Drive and Good Homes Road around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24. Authorities shut down West Colonial Drive in both directions shortly after, Orange County Fire Rescue said, but the road has since been reopened.

According to OCFRD, five of the seven patients were hurt and transported to the hospital. Three of the patients had serious injuries, including a trauma alert, and the two children were transported with less serious injuries.
