An Ocoee consignment shop storefront is damaged after a vehicle crashed through it on the Fourth of July.

According to the Ocoee Police Department, at around 11:15 p.m. a witness saw a parked black Mazda MPV accelerate forward and drive through the front of the Upscale Apparel on the 1500 block of Wurst Road.

The witness then saw the white male driver back out in the vehicle, drive it to the roadway nearby, get out and remove the license plate before fleeing toward Spring Lake Elementary School.

“We have a vehicle that’s been towed and everything,” Deputy Chief Stephen McCosker said. “We have leads based off of that. The officer that’s working the case is still following up on that part of it.”

McCosker said that a car driving through a storefront is more common than people realize — drivers sometimes don’t realize the car isn’t in park and they end up reversing or moving forward accidentally.

“It usually happens with an older driver or an inexperienced driver,” he said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call the Ocoee Police Department at (407) 905-3160 or CrimeLine at 1-800-423-8477.
