U.S. Rep. Val Demings, who represents Florida's 10th congressional district, has been named one of seven impeachment managers in presenting the case to the U.S. Senate.

Demings is one of seven House Democrats named by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday, Jan. 15, who will present the case for President Donald Trump's impeachment to the U.S. Senate. Among the West Orange County municipalities Demings serves are Winter Garden, Ocoee and Windermere.

She is a member of the Judiciary and Intelligence Committees and previously served as chief of the Orlando Police Department. She also is married to Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings.

Val Demings will serve alongside House Intelligence Chair Adam Schiff, House Judiciary Chair Jerry Nadler, House Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries, Rep. Zoe Lofgren, Rep. Sylvia Garcia and Rep. Jason Crow.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to help defend our republic in this incredible moment in history," she said in a statement. "I hope that every American who believes in democracy will take a stand. ...I understand that the politics of impeachment are difficult for many senators. But I have not written off the Senate. Each senator still has the power to do the right thing. I know that as each senator considers whether to side with justice or corruption, the voices of the American people will matter.”

The House is set to vote later Wednesday to send the two articles of impeachment against Trump to the Senate to begin the trial.
