Ocoee police shoot suspected car thief

The suspect is in critical condition at an AdventHealth hospital.

Ocoee police officers this morning shot a suspected car thief in the Publix parking lot.

According to police reports, at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, officers were in the area of 301 West Road looking for a stolen vehicle.

Officers made contact with the vehicle in the parking lot. While approaching the vehicle, the driver drove the vehicle in the direction of an officer in an attempt to elude the officers and striking them. 

One of the officers discharged a weapon and struck the driver.

The driver was transported to AdventHealth hospital and is in critical condition.

The officers were not injured in this incident.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
