Less than two weeks after legendary Dr. Phillips head coach Rodney Wells announced he was stepping away from the football sidelines, and the administration found his replacement.

The school’s find came from in house, former assistant coach Caleb Walls will step into the head coaching slot of the football team. Walls has worked alongside Wells for the last three seasons as the wide receivers coach.

Walls, just like Wells, played at Dr. Phillips during his high school career and was a wide receiver on Dr. Phillips’ state runners-up team in 2016. Following high school he traveled down to West Palm Beach to play at Keiser University. He became an All-Sun Conference kick returner. During college he also became the first player in the school’s history to return a kick for a touchdown with a 89-yard score.

Following his promotion, Walls becomes the youngest football head coach in Central Florida at age 27.
