Four OCPS schools have been named Apple Distinguished Schools for their excellence in technology and innovation.

Two of these schools are located in Southwest Orange County, Windy Ridge K-8 and Hamlin Elementary schools.

According to Apple, The Apple Distinguished program was created to support local leaders through leadership events, opportunities to engage with experts and collaboration with peers who share an interest in innovative learning and teaching.

Schools need to meet certain qualifications before being invited to join the program, such as one-to-one programs, innovative uses of the Apple platform, leadership and faculty proficiency with iPads or Mac, and continuous innovation leadership team.

"This invitation-only honor recognizes schools that use technology to spark creativity, collaboration and critical thinking," OCPS posted on its Facebook. They join a selective group of just 1,100 schools worldwide. Thank you for leading the way in educational excellence."

The other two schools are Kelly Park School and Zellwood Elementary School.
