What makes you the best candidate for Orange County mayor?
For more than 20 years, I have served Orange County as both a county commissioner and clerk of courts. My experience managing large organizations, balancing budgets and delivering results has prepared me to lead Orange County with integrity, accountability and a commitment to serving every resident.
What are the key differences between you and your opponents?
I have a proven record of delivering results. As a county commissioner, I secured funding for infrastructure, parks, neighborhood improvements, small business programs and community centers. As clerk of courts, I expanded access to justice through initiatives like the Self-Help Center, Operation Greenlight, restoration of rights workshops, extended office hours and a new branch courthouse. My experience is rooted in public service and getting things done.
What are the three most pressing issues facing Orange County?
Housing affordability and attainability, managing growth through smart and equitable development, and investing in innovative transportation solutions that improve mobility for residents.
What are some changes you'd like to see made during your time as Orange County Mayor?
My priorities are expanding attainable housing, improving transportation and multimodal connectivity, supporting small businesses, and ensuring growth is planned responsibly while protecting our quality of life.
Evaluate outgoing Mayor Jerry Demings' performance. What did he do well? What would you do differently?
Mayor Demings provided steady leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping secure resources for residents and businesses during an unprecedented time. Every leader has a different style, and I respect his years of service. My focus would be on building stronger relationships with all of the mayors in Orange County to create greater synergy to serve our citizens. My leadership style is transformative with an emphasis on building collaboration, innovation and efficient government.
Discuss your knowledge and familiarity with District 1 (Horizon West and West Orange County) and its issues.
I currently live in Horizon West, and I represented West Orange County for two terms as the District 6 County Commissioner which bordered District 1. I was involved in planning during the early development of Horizon West and worked on infrastructure, neighborhood improvements, parks and economic development throughout West Orange County. Today, I understand residents' priorities, including transportation congestion, school capacity, infrastructure keeping pace with growth, protecting quality of life, and ensuring smart, responsible development.
Recently, the National Association of Home Builders announced it is pulling its convention out of Orlando. How should Orange County respond to this news? What is key in preventing more conventions from leaving the area?
Orange County should continue investing in infrastructure, transportation and the convention district to remain competitive. We must work closely with our tourism and business partners to ensure Orlando continues to be a premier destination for conventions while providing an exceptional experience for visitors and residents alike.
Discuss your position on SunRail and Orange County's involvement.
Orange County should continue to be an active partner in SunRail's future. Expanding service and connecting SunRail to Orlando International Airport are essential to creating a truly regional transportation system that benefits commuters, residents, employers and visitors while reducing traffic congestion.
What are your political aspirations beyond serving Orange County?
My focus is entirely on serving as the next Orange County Mayor. Public service has always been my passion, and my priority is leading Orange County and delivering results for our residents.
