Hamlin's St. Patrick's Day Block Party now is among many other events being postponed due to the scope of the COVID-19 virus.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, March 14, the block party was set to be a neighborhood celebration of the St. Patrick's Day holiday. Festivities scheduled included live music, Irish dancers, bagpipers and family-friendly activities.

Hamlin representatives wrote on their Facebook page that it ultimately decided to postpone the event out of an abundance of caution for the event's vendors, supporters and families.

"As our understanding of the scope and significance of the COVID-19 virus has developed over the course of the last several days, we, like most organizations, have made decisions that have only one objective: to do whatever is in our power to keep our community healthy," the post states. "Though we are disappointed, we take solace in the safety of our community and pass our blessings to those who are suffering."
