Group honors Oakland veteran

The Winter Garden-based USA DANCE hosted its 3rd annual ‘Wounded Warrior Appreciation Dance’ on May 25 at Macy’s Furniture Gallery. Ballroom dancers from Orange County enjoyed an evening of social dancing and swing and Latin performances by Army and Navy veterans. Proceeds of $798 from the dance went directly to Marine Cpl. CJ Barnes, who was severely wounded in Afghanistan. Cpl. Barnes, his wife and their 1-year-old son live in a home in Oakland that was built for them by the Habitat for Humanity’s ‘Home At Last’ program for wounded veterans. Cpl. Barnes is joined by the event’s performers: Tom Simmons (Army veteran), Carla Hoskins (Navy veteran), Trena McKay and Tom Huber.
