Mayor Frank Roper’s timely suggestion at the last commission meeting that Winter Garden should have a hospital was met with a hearty response. The city has felt the need for such an institution for a long time, said Mr. Roper, and now is the time to make a start. It will be an institution that will add prestige to the city’s progressive spirit.

Mary A. Lemp, of Winter Garden, and Janelle M. Clem, of Windermere, were honored for superior academic excellence at Florida Technological University. Dr. Charles N. Millican, president of FTU, said students were recognized who had made dean’s list for three out of four quarters.

Susan Ellis and Luanna Sanders, of Winter Garden, and Mary Russ, of Windermere, were among high-school seniors from the Central Florida area who attended a house party at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. They stayed in the dormitories and were entertained by the students. The purpose was to give the girls an opportunity to see what life is like on a college campus.

To be presented at the 1974 West Orange Debutante Ball at the Bay Hill Country Club are: Paula Austin, Karen Bennett, Joy Browder, Dale Duppenthaler, Diane Duppenthaler, Christi Forrester, Melissa Martin, Denise Morris, Pamela Mullee, Jeanne Pitchford, Janet Ray, Marilyn Smith, Susan Tinsley and Deborah Woodsby.

The Rotary Club of Dr. Phillips held its Charter Night Banquet at the Bay Hill Club, with Win Pendleton as master of ceremonies. The Rev. Gordon Smith, president of the Windermere Rotary Club, presented the Rotary bell and gavel to Rans Black, charter president of the new club.

One of the finest auto auction facilities in the nation has begun construction in Ocoee. The 47-acre site was acquired last year by the Auto Auction at Orlando owned by the Manheim Service Corporation of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

25 years ago

The musical group known as “Musicians Three” was increased to four as Adele Moody, pianist, was added to help present a Christmas program at West Orange Manor in Winter Garden.  The others are Jimmy McKey, pianist, Bill Malchik, cellist, and Ernie Hawk, announcer.

It may have been the party of the year when Suzi Karr and her associates of Suzi Karr Realty entertained 350 clients, friends and associates at Isleworth County Club. The event was coordinated by Michael Hall. Kirk Farr was master of ceremonies. Sherri Britt was honored as Associate of the Year.
