WINTER GARDEN -- The Winter Garden Police Department was looking for Michael Scott Shemansky, 35, a man who is a suspect in the death of his mother, Sandra Shemansky, 57.

An officer from the Mascotte Police Department arrested him at 10:30 Monday night in Lake County, Winter Garden Police Lt. Scott Allen said.

“He went to a resident’s house in Lake County and asked for medical assistance,” Allen said. “The resident began to take the subject to the hospital. Michael Shemansky began to have seizures in the car.”

The driver stopped the vehicle and found that officer with the Mascotte Police Department, who found a warrant for Michael Shemansky’s arrest, Allen said.

“There are unknown injuries on him,” Allen said of Shemansky. “We don’t know whether they are from the incident with his mother or anything subsequent, but they are not from the arrest.”

Police said they had found Sandra Shemansky's body at the trailer park home she and her son shared on West Colonial Drive, as part of a well-being check at 7:22 p.m. April 18, requested by a relative from another state. Investigators have ruled the death a homicide and were looking for Michael Shemansky based on evidence they believe identifies him as the primary suspect.

Police said Michael Shemansky has had a history of mental illness and had been living with his mother in that trailer while on a trip from Michigan to visit his son from a previous marriage.

Michael Shemansky was last seen in Winter Garden early this week before he left the scene of the crime on foot and ultimately went to Lake County.
