Maitland’s general municipal election

Thank you, Maitland residents, for participating in Maitland's general municipal election on Tuesday, March 10, to elect a mayor. A total of 1,893 votes were cast. This total includes two under votes.

Candidates Doug Kinson and Dale McDonald vied for the seat of mayor, currently being filled by outgoing Mayor Howard Schieferdecker. Kinson received 620 votes and McDonald received 1,271 votes.

McDonald is no stranger to the City Council chambers, City Hall, or the Maitland community. He has served on the City's Planning & Zoning Commission for a number of years, most recently serving as chairman. Before his tenure on the Planning & Zoning Commission, he served on the Code Enforcement Board and Board of Zoning Adjustment.

On Monday, April 13, Mayor-Elect McDonald will be sworn into office. The Inaugural Ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Maitland City Hall Council Chambers. The general public is invited to attend this event. Congratulations, Mayor-Elect McDonald!

Kitten rescue

On March 11, Maitland Fire-Rescue responded to a kitten stuck in the front grill of a car. The young cat was found turning about in the grill of the car but unable to get out. Fire-Rescue professional staff partially disassembled the grill of the car to allow access to the kitty, and was able to safely retrieve the kitten. The car was reassembled without damage.
