Art of Fitness to host yoga classes for veterans, art show

Art of Fitness in Dr. Phillips has launched a new yoga class geared to veterans who have served in combat, and will be hosting an art show.

The Art of Fitness yoga studio located at 5154 Dr. Phillips Blvd is launching Yoga For Heroes, a community yoga class for veterans.

The classes are open to non-member veterans who have served in combat, beginner or not. During the sessions, which will be led by Maria Marcano, will have participants learn breathing techniques, and positions adopted from the Inner Axis method developed by Max Strom, a master yoga coach and international lecturer.

This method is aimed at remove circulatory blockages that may result from excess stress, anxiety, low energy brought on by modern-day lifestyles., but is geared toward the health of the nervous system.  Yoga’s focus on conscious breathing and movement is reputed to improve oxygenation of the blood, mental clarity, lung capacity, stamina, sleep, among other things.

Classes are held the first Saturdays of every month at 1:15 p.m, and the studio asks for a donation of $5 per class. The yoga studio will also be hosting an art show by photographer Karen Maugans named The Luminance Exhibition on Sept. 17 from 5-9 p.m.
