HORIZON WEST Soon, Horizon West residents will be able to enjoy dinner and a movie — all at the same place.
Hamlin developer Boyd Development Corporation announced Aug. 19 luxury movie-theater company Cinépolis USA as its newest tenant. Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas Hamlin, which will be Cinépolis USA’s seventh dine-in movie theater in the country, it is scheduled to open fall 2017.
The 10-screen luxury movie theater will front Lake Hancock, along with three to five other waterfront restaurants.
Cinépolis USA’s dine-in theaters include a waiter service, a full menu, reclining leather seats and a full bar.
“It will be a great fit,” said Annelise Holyoak, national marketing manager for Cinépolis. “Luckily, our real-estate team does a lot of research, and they feel that the demographics match perfectly to what we’re looking for. The community has an absolute relaxed, healthy feel, casual but very elegant, and similarly to Cinépolis, Hamlin is going to be an immersive experience.”
When visiting Cinépolis dine-in theaters, most people purchase tickets online before coming. Theaters typically open 20 minutes before the screening begins, and people can go straight to their seats, where a server will greet them and take their dinner orders. Depending on when people order, their meal will come out either before the movie or during the beginning.
The theater is designed in such a way that the servers do not block guest’s view of the screen. The auditoriums, which feature reclining seats, are set up stadium-style, so each seat is above the one in front of it.
Each theater also is equipped with a bar in the lobby. Patrons can enjoy their drink at the bar or take it into the theater. People also can order drinks from their server.
Cinépolis theaters offer experiential events and items specific to each area, Holyoak said. The theaters offer themed merchandise specific to that area, pop-up art shows and specialty drinks and cocktails.
“It’s the only way you’ll ever see a movie after you try it,” Holyoak said.
West Orange residents may be familiar with Cinépolis because of its Polk County theater, located just off Interstate 4 about 30 minutes from Hamlin. That theater is more of a traditional theater; however, it does have a full bar with some gourmet food items, as well as an IMAX theater.
Cinépolis USA is the third anchor tenant to commit to Hamlin. Walmart opens this fall, and Publix will open in spring 2017.

Hamlin will be Cinépolis USA’s seventh luxury movie theater. The company, based in Dallas, has 16 operating theaters in the U.S. Its parent company, Cinépolis — based in Mexico — began adopting the luxury movie-theater model in 1999. Currently, Cinépolis is the world’s fourth-largest movie theater chain, with more than 550 locations worldwide.
In addition to the luxury movie theater, a Walmart is scheduled to open this fall, and Publix will open in spring 2017.
Hamlin currently includes three neighborhoods for single-family homes — Ashton Woods’ Hamlin Reserve and Taylor Morrison’s Overlook at Hamlin and Cove at Hamlin. A 316-unit apartment project, LakeWalk at Hamlin, will complete by early 2018. In addition, Orlando Health is building a 16-bed hospital, scheduled to open early 2018.
