TBT: Windermere’s recreation complex

In 1981, a youth athletic park was planned for the town of Windermere that was to include baseball, volleyball, tennis and myriad other sports.

The Windermere Rotary Club led the charge for a youth recreational park, designed to fit behind Windermere Elementary School. The planned called for a baseball diamond, softball field, volleyball courts, soccer field, exercise course, handball courts, horseshoe pits, basketball and tennis courts and a junior playground.

Don Strube of Windermere initiated the idea.

Windermere Rotarians who were involved in the planning were Bill Colburn, Bob Ellis, Bob Hughes, Percy Hurt, Glenn Jackson, Jack Jowett, Bob Matheison, Joe McClellan, Dan Moore, Gene Murphy, Bob Pleus, Gordon Smith, Strube and Ulay Thompson.
