OCOEE  As Light Christian Academy and Childcare prepares to expand its campus and preschool department, some staff promotions and leadership changes are in order.

Bishop Thomas Odom — LCA’s chief administrator and lead pastor of Ocoee Church of God — announced Wednesday, March 1, that Rebecca Smith will now become the school’s principal.

Smith has been part of the administrative staff since the school opened in 2009 and has served as its assistant principal since last summer. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Central Florida and will now be in charge of day-to-day operations for grades K5 through 12.

Wendy Odom, LCA’s administrator and First Lady of Ocoee Church of God, is entering her new role of overseeing the preschool department. The Orange County Board of Zoning Adjustment approved the school’s request last week to use the residential home on 16th Avenue for the preschool ministry, and LCA hopes to use it to open a full K3 and K4 program this fall, serving about 30 students.

Wendy Odom holds a childcare directors credential and has been heavily involved in the operation of LCA since its inception.

Bishop Thomas Odom will now serve as the chief administrator for the school and continues to serve as Ocoee Church of God’s lead pastor.
