A decision on whether to permit Property Assessed Clean Energy programs within Winter Garden city limits is on the agenda for the city's April 23 City Commission meeting.
According to city documents, PACE is "a financing mechanism used for energy efficiency, renewable energy and wind mitigation upgrades to properties."
Florida Statute authorizes PACE financing to be repaid as a non-ad valorem special assessment on the property’s regular tax bill. It is processed the same way as other local public-benefit assessments such as neighborhood improvement or special taxing districts.
If commissioners approve this resolution, the commercial PACE program will be authorized to be administered within city limits on a non-exclusive basis.
"Commercial properties will be able to utilize voluntary non-ad valorem assessments to finance qualifying improvements under the PACE program," city documents state.
Also on the agenda is the selection of mayor pro-tem, as well as a recommendation to approve distribution of $11,083 awarded grant funds to purchase entry tools for use by the Winter Garden Police Department's SWAT team.
