Derrick Bumpers named new head football coach at Windermere High

Bumpers comes to Windermere after a three-season stint at South Walton High School.

Windermere High School's football program has found its new head coach in Derrick Bumpers.

Bumpers comes to Windermere from South Walton High School in Santa Rosa Beach, where he spent three years serving numerous roles as an assistant head coach, Assistant athletic director, co-defensive coordinator, and strength and conditioning coach.

During his stay at South Walton, Bumpers helped lead the Seahawks from a 3-7 season in 2017, to making it to back to back regional semifinals in 2018 and 2019.

Bumpers has a long history of football, dating back to his time playing at Vigor High School in Prichard, Alabama before going on to play at Troy University. He transferred to to the University of Alabama - Birmingham, where he graduated with a BS in Health Promotion/Fitness Leadership.

His coaching career kicked off at Tri Cities High School in Atlanta, before he took on an intern role with the University of Alabama football program. He later took on various roles at Greenville High School (GA), Foley High School (AL) and Northview High School (AL).

The school will be holding a formal introduction to the community Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m.
