As of Friday, March 13, Orange County Public Schools planned to resume classes after spring break on Monday, March 23.

"I want to reassure you there has been no decision from the state level nor from the local level to close schools after spring break," Superintendent Dr. Barbara Jenkins said. "That rumor probably started because of a decision made at the university level. Again, schools are not closing after spring break. We are taking guidance from the governor, the Florida Department of Education, the Florida Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Florida is still considered low risk, and Orange County currently does not have any confirmed cases of COVID-19.

"As OCPS families and staff begin spring break, we urge everyone to exercise caution regarding travel," she said. "We know young people are the most resilient when it comes to the virus, but we must be extra careful to protect our students, staff and community. I want to remind everyone that if you do travel internationally or go on a cruise, you should follow the CDC's prevention and control guidelines when you get back. The CDC recommends travelers defer all cruise ship travel. If you develop any flu-like symptoms, immediately isolate yourself, notify your school or work location and contact a medical professional for possible testing."

While everyone is away, custodial crews will work to clean schools and offices in preparation for the return of students and staff, she said. District staff will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and are prepared with a plan to provide remote instruction should it become necessary.
