Orange County Public Schools cancels proms, Grad Bash events

The decision was made by the school district in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Orange County Public Schools is canceling all proms and Grad Bash events for high schools seniors out of safety and health concerns, according to a Facebook post by the school district Tuesday, March 24.

The decision was made following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Florida Department of Health. Refunds will be processed for tickets purchased for these events.

"We know how important events like these are to students and families," Orange County Public Schools said in the Facebook post. "Our principals and teachers, indeed all of us, are very proud of our students and the hard work they put forward this year. As distance learning begins next week, our schools are committed to ensuring students finish the year strong. ... This is an unprecedented time in our lives. Our students will be remembered for their resilience and grace during this challenging time for our nation."

No decision has been made in regards to graduation ceremonies, according to the post. The school district said a decision will be made in the coming weeks as it continues to monitor the situation daily.
