In a news alert posted on its website, Orange County Public Schools announced today — Monday, March 30 — that the Florida Department of Education has extended the closure of schools in the state through Thursday, April 30, in order to protect students and faculty during the coronavirus pandemic.

The news comes almost two weeks after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the previous update, which originally had K-12 public school students returning to classes Wednesday, April 15.

For students around Central Florida — and throughout the state — Monday marked the first day of distance learning for districts, which will now continue forward throughout the rest of the month of April.
