Shannon King, 56, has been formally indicted by an Orange County grand jury for first degree murder and stalking.
On Wednesday, July 31, the state presented sufficient evidence to the jury to secure the indictment.
According to a press release from the office of Andrew Bain, State Attorney, Ninth Judicial Circuit, an indictment is "merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
On March 1, King approached Winter Garden victim Jessica Leigh Steigelman, 38, in a shopping center parking lot located at 10908 W. Colonial Drive, Ocoee.
A witness observed the two appearing to argue outside of a vehicle.
After King and Steigelman got into her vehicle, another witness observed King stabbing Steigelman with a large knife and rushed to help her.
Bystanders detained King until Ocoee Police Department officers arrived on scene and arrested him.
The police department credited the indictment to "great policework, investigators working tirelessly around the clock and our continued partnership with State Attorney Andrew A. Bain," according to a post shared on social media Tuesday, Aug. 6.
Bain's representatives said they are unable to provide additional information about the case at this time.
