A Water Spring Elementary School student was struck by a vehicle at 3:20 p.m. Monday, March 11, on Water Spring Boulevard and Bedtime Story Drive.

The 10-year-old male student, who has not been identified in the Florida Highway Patrol's crash report, was hit while walking home from school.

According to the report, the crash involved a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe and the student.

The driver of the car, a 44-year-old male from Winter Garden, was not transported and remained on-scene.

The student was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Principal Rachel Larsen notified parents the student is expected to be OK.

Local residents took to the Waterleigh Neighborhood Facebook page to express their concerns.

"Obviously don't know all the details, but hope regardless of who is 'at fault' this is a friendly reminder for us drivers to get it together for the safety of our kids," Kim Rowley Herndon wrote. "This neighborhood is seriously the most reckless of drivers I've ever seen from speeding to absolute abandonment of stop signs to an overage of parking on the streets ... we have got to do better!"

This is a developing story. Please check back for more updates.
