During the school's Homecoming spirit week — which ran from Oct. 15-18 — the middle school SGA students hosted a costume drive where they asked other students at the school to bring in gently-used Halloween costumes to donate to children at Hungerford Elementary.

All of the middle school students at WPS were involved in the drive, and they competing by homeroom to bring in costumes. To help increase participation, the homeroom that collected the most costumes won an ice cream party.

The middle school also used money raised during spirit week coin wars — a competition between grade levels where students collect coins in jars — to purchase additional costumes and themed packaging for donations.

On Oct. 25, middle school SGA representatives traveled to Hungerford Elementary with the costumes to present to the children.

"The costume drive was an amazing experience," said Harlow Winstead and Mason Crocetti, middle school SGA presidents. "Getting to deliver costumes to students in need was so rewarding, and we will remember it forever. Even though it was a small act, it felt good to know that we gave young children a chance to get a new costume and ultimately have a Happy Halloween! It was fun seeing the whole school come together to collect these costumes. This was such a good lesson on how to give back to the community and help those in need."
