Whispering Oak Elementary earns national recognition in Kids Heart Challenge

The school ranks in the top 25 nationwide and received the Heart of Gold Award.

Whispering Oak Elementary School has been ranked top in the county and state and among the top 25 in the nation for its participation in the Kids Heart Challenge.

The Kids Heart Challenge, held at schools nationwide, provides heart-healthy physical activity through service learning in support of the American Heart Association. The program focuses on whole-body well-being and helping students improve their health while raising life-saving donations to support children with special hearts.

The school received the Heart of Gold Award, the highest honor awarded by the AHA. This award is given annually to individuals or groups who have rendered the most distinguished service over time in advancing the objectives of the AHA.

Robin Dickerson, a physical education teacher at Whispering Oak Elementary, led the effort and was presented with the award.

“Thanks to your support, Whispering Oak Wildcats, we were able to succeed,” Whispering Oak Elementary posted on Facebook. “We're honored to have been awarded the Heart of Gold Award.”
