After a lightning delay pushed the first pitch of Horizon High softball’s Class 6A regional quarterfinal game against visiting Tate High — then halted play in the top of the first inning — the Lady Hawks rallied from behind twice to top the Aggies, 8-6, and advance to the semifinals of the Region 1 playoffs.
Senior pitcher Mackenzie Duncan, a Penn State signee, led Horizon (21-6) to the win over Tate (8-15) from both the circle and the batter’s box, throwing a 14-strikeout complete game and going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Hawks’ junior Brooke Grafton and sophomore Morgyn Welch also boosted the Horizon offense by bringing in a pair of runs each.
Horizon will host Navarre High (14-9) in the regional semifinals Tuesday, May 13.
