West Orange, Southwest Orange students receive MLK Humanitarian award

Twenty-eight students from across the county were awarded the Orlando Mayor’s MLK Youth Humanitarian Award.

Horizon High School announced one of its students was awarded the MLK Humanitarian Award.

 Sydni Patrick was the recipient. 

“The Orlando Mayor’s MLK Youth Humanitarian Award is a prestigious honor presented to high school students who exemplify the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through character, leadership and service,” the announcement said. “We are proud to have you as a Hawk!” 

Another student from Dr. Phillips, Saki Anandani, also received the award. 

According to the city of Orlando’s website, Anandani embodies Dr. King’s legacy through her unwavering commitment to treat others equally with empathy and respect. 

Valeria Jimenez from Lake Buena Vista High was another recipient. 

“Valeria’s commitment to equity, dignity and service is not only inspiring— it is unwavering,” the announcement said. 

Asmaa Alboulad from Windermere High received the award as well, thanks to her positivity and kindness. 

Gustavo DaSilva is a student at West Orange High. 

According to the city of Orlando’s website, he embodies Dr. King through his sense of compassion, fairness and commitment to serving others. 

Victoria Samedi from Ocoee High and Allyson Williams from Olympia High were recipients of this award as well. 

According to the announcement, Samedi wants to create change in the world. She aspires to become an OBGYN to address the maternal mortality crisis among Black women. 

Williams received the award because of her commitment to equality, respect and service. 

Congratulations to all these students for their accomplishments.
