“The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle was the focus of Friday’s lesson.
Students at Oakland Nature Preserve’s summer camp were hard at work learning about the food chain Friday, July 10.
Throughout the week, children were taught about the food chain and how organisms function within it, with lessons inspired by Eric Carle, the author of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” “The Tiny Seed,” “The Very Busy Spider,” and others.
On Friday, children were tasked with creating their very own hungry caterpillar out of Pringles cans, while learning how caterpillars benefit the environment.
They then played Baamboozle, a friendly but competitive learning game to test their knowledge on the food chain.
