Back-to-school sales tax holiday now in effect

Florida's annual back-to-school sales tax holiday is back. 

From Monday, July 20, through Thursday, Aug. 20, residents completing their back-to-school shopping will be exempt from sales tax when purchasing certain items. 

According to the state, shoppers qualify for exemption if items such as clothing, footwear, wallets, backpacks, handbags, fanny packs and diaper bags are priced at $100 or less per item. 

Shoppers also will be exempt from sales tax for certain school supplies such as binders, colored pencils, notebooks, highlighters, scissors, pens, pencils, markers, lunchboxes, poster boards and others if they are priced at $50 or less per item. 

Learning aids such as flashcards, jigsaw puzzles, memory games, search-and-find books, learning cards and stacking blocks will be exempt as well if priced at $30 or below. 

Shoppers also will receive tax exemption on personal computers and certain computer-related accessories such as keyboards, storage drives, cables, routers, hard drives, speakers, web cameras, tablets and others priced at $1,500 or less.
