Orange County Public Schools reached out to families regarding a cybersecurity data breach in Canvas, an app designed for students to access lessons, take quizzes, tests, submit assignments, check grades, etc.
Canvas attributed the data breach to the cyber-criminal group ShinyHunters.
Compromised data includes names, email addresses, student ID numbers and private messages.
Because of this, OCPS has made the decision to remove parents’ and students’ access to the application until the system has been stabilized.
“We understand the disruption this temporary removal may cause, and this decision was not made lightly,” the voicemail said. “The safety and security of the OCPS community remains our top priority, and the canvas environment is not currently stable enough to allow continued access at this time.”
