Despite getting off to a good start and leading midway through the second quarter, the CFCA Eagles were unable to keep pace with the Lake Mary Prep Griffins, who scored 41-unanswered points en route to a 49-14 win.

“They came out and fought,” said CFCA head coach Jeremy Campbell of his team’s performance early. “Came out being aggressive—that’s one thing we talked about, coming out with a sense of urgency and we did that.”

The Eagles got on the board first on a touchdown run from Jared Milroy to put CFCA up 6-0 with 5:14 left in the first.

Lake Mary Prep responded, scoring a touchdown with eight seconds left in the first quarter. The Griffins led 8-6 after the two-point conversion.

With 7:26 left in the second quarter, CFCA regained the lead, this time with Milroy being on the receiving end of a pass from Caleb Brenyo. The Eagles went up 14-8 following a successful two-point conversion run from Macena Gay.

The lead wouldn’t last long, though, as Lake Mary Prep scored 33 seconds later on a touchdown pass to tie the game. The Griffins would score once more, going into halftime up 21-14.

Things got away from the Eagles (1-5) in the second half. Lake Mary Prep outscored its hosts 28-0 the rest of the way and the game ended with a running clock.

Milroy, a captain for CFCA, scored both of the Eagles' touchdowns.

“Jared is a guy that we depend on on both sides of the ball, so his leadership is very important and he’s holding up his end of the deal," Campbell said.

The Eagles will be back in action on Oct. 12 as they go on the road to take on the Legacy Eagles in a division contest

“We’re excited,” said Campbell. “Another opportunity to strap it up. We gotta go back and fine tune some things, figure out what we’re going to do at quarterback because (our starter) is out for next week, so we gotta figure it out — but we’re excited.”
