Three decades of Winter Park High School students have stepped onto the turf of Showalter Field since the last time the stadium was renovated. Now the Winter Park community is launching an effort to the bring the field up to modern standards.
“We've just got to get it back up to where we think Winter Park High School should have it to represent the community,” said Winter Park Foundation member Julie Champion.

Her organization has teamed up with the city of Winter Park, and Rollins College to start the Restore the Roar campaign to raise money to give Showalter Field a major upgrade.
Proposed renovations include installing new athletic turf, an eight-lane all-weather track surrounding the field, and an updated athletic training facility.
“Showalter Field has not been renovated since 1986 and is in dire need of major renovation as its current condition does not fit our platform for excellence at Winter Park,” wrote Winter Park Pride Chairman Sid Cash in a letter annoucing the fundraiser. “An estimated $250,000 is needed to restore it to a place of pride for our community.”
To help raise funds, there will be a Feast on the 50 to support Restore the Roar at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20. The adults-only event will feature Sonny’s BBQ, music from the band Room 2, fireworks and more. Your first drink is included in the ticket price, with more available for purchase. Attendees will dine on tables set up along the yard lines of Showalter Field.
Ticket prices range from $75 for an individual tickets to $20,000 for two tickets as a Champion Sponsor.
Showalter Field serves as a home for local athletic teams year-round, including Winter Park High School football games, marching band halftime shows, and lacrosse, soccer, track and field, flag football and cheerleading games and practices.
