Jerry Demings, mayor of Orange County, shared some sad news with county residents.

"Monday of this week I received some bad news from my doctor, who confirmed I have prostate cancer," he said. "Because of that, I'm going to suspend my campaign for governor. I'm going to focus on my health; that'll become the priority."

He said in order to receive the proper treatment, he needed to let something go.

"I can't continue to do my job as mayor, take care of my family and run for governor," he said. "So I made a difficult decision."

Demings said he intends to continue "running through the finish line" as the mayor of Orange County, with his current term ending in November.

"I'm going to focus on my health, I'm going to focus on living," he said.

Demings thanked his supporters and asked them to pray for him.
